Personlig
Jeg er født i 1967 og oppvokst i Drangedal i Telemark, men har siden 1986 bodd i Trondheim. Jeg er samboer med Lilian Leistad og vi har to barn. Mine fritidsaktiviteter er musikk (sang, gitarspill), ski/orientering.

Utdannelse
Jeg er utdannet ved den gang Norges Tekniske Høyskole, institutt for Elkraftteknikk i 1990 med diplom om optimal lastflyt. Jeg ble ansatt som førsteamanuensis ved institutt for elkraftteknikk faggruppe Høyspenningsteknikk 1. juni 1999 og rykket opp til professor i 2007. Før den tid var jeg ansatt som forsker ved SINTEF Energiforskning fra 1992. I 1998 tok jeg dr.ing. grad med tittelen "Lightning-induced overvoltages in low-voltage systems" som ved siden av den rent elektromagnetiske modelleringen av lyn og luftlinjer tok for seg responsen til husinstallasjoner og transformatorer i lavspentnettet.

Forskning
Min forskningsaktivitet er spredt over flere fagfelt og kan i hovedsak kategoriseres som følger:

• Feilanalyser og modellering av elektriske kraftnett.
  • Jording. Med fokus på jording av elkraftanlegg og konsekvenser av jording på overspenninger.
  • Lyn. Induserte lynoverspenninger, lynregistrering og isolasjonskoordinering og vern. Alle spenningsnivåer.
  • Transformatorer. Modellering av krafttransformatorer. Magnetiske forhold, innkoblingsstrømmer. Høy-frekvens.
  • Overspenningsberegninger og isolasjonskoordinering.
  • Vern. Distribuert produksjon.
• Tilstandskontroll. Vibrasjonsanalyse av effektbrytere, viklingsrespons på transfomatorer.
• Programmering. Utvikling av grafisk grensesnitt for ATP-EMTP kalt ATPDraw. Windows programmering i Borland Delphi.
